MARK OF IVAN KHLEBNIKOV IN CYRILLIC, MOSCOW, 1878, 84 STANDARD .

Of circular form, the open basket-weave dish with plaited rim, the outer collar inscribed in blue enamel with individual names in stylised Slavonic script (“Viaz”).

The present lot was a gift from the participants of the IV All-Russian Congress of Forestries, which took place in Warsaw in August, 1878. Among the participants, whose names are engraved on the dish, was Alexander (1850-1906), an elder brother of Konstantin Eduardovich Tsiolkovsky, the founder of modern cosmonautics. He graduated from the St Petersburg agricultural institute and worked in one of the forestries of the Voronezh province.
