Authenticity of the work has been confirmed by V. Swanson, art historian and author of the book Soviet Impressionist Painting, Woodbridge, Antique Collectors’ Club, 2008.
The present lot is a study for the 1951 painting Meeting of the Presidium of the USSR Academy of Sciences, currently in the collection of the State Russian Museum, executed by a team of artists with Maksimov as its member. The artist, along with the other associates, was awarded in 1952 the Stalin Prize of the third degree for this painting.
