The shrouded lifeless body of Christ lies on a carved tombstone, His Mother, John the Evangelist and Nicodemos wrap the body, Joseph from Arimathea pours myrrh on His feet; to the left Magdalene and Martha are in mourning, two angels wave rhipidia. The background is dominated by the image of the cross and further behind, Jerusalem; Christ’s tomb is carved in stone to the right; the icon is finely executed with mainly ochre and pastel colours.
