An elaborate composition arranged over two registers, symbolising the earthly and celestial worlds, separated by a band of clouds; the lower part depicting, in an interior space, St. Romanos the Melodist on a circular platform displaying an inscribed scroll, to the left is the Archbishop and Imperial couple, to the right St. Andrew the Fool in Christ pointing out the heavenly vision to St. Epiphanios; the upper section of the icon visualising the miraculous appearance of the Mother of God in a Mandorla supported by two angels, holding her sacred veil and praying to Christ whose image is depicted above her in a red glory, surrounded by crowds of saints that consist of kings, prophets, bishops, apostles, monks and blessed women; the icon sits in a carved and gilded wooden frame.
