The cavetto painted with hammer and sickle against black background, surrounded by flowers, the border decorated with foliage motifs and gilt rim, marked with blue “NGF” (NovGubFarfor) factory marks in Cyrillic on the reverse.
The agitation theme takes a prominent place in S. Chekhonin’s paintings on porcelain, most of which were created in the first three years after the October Revolution. The present lot is one of the numerous designs by the artist depicting the symbols of the Soviet State, mainly the new National Emblem – hammer and sickle. The floral design covering almost the whole surface of the plate bears the resemblance to the Usolye enamels.
