Abstract Composition, signed and dated 1962, also further signed and dated on the reverse.
Oil on canvas, 70 by 79 cm.
25,000-30,000 GBP
Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist by the father of the present owner.
Important private collection, France.
Authenticity of the work has been confirmed by Margarita Tupitsyn, the artist’s niece and a historian of contemporary Russian art.
The elegant Abstract Composition by Lydia Masterkova is evidence of the artist’s admiration in the early 1960s for the frescoes by the Russian medieval icon painter, Dionysius, whose legacy she attempted to translate into the language of abstract expressionism. Masterkova’s works of that period rarely become available on the art market.
