Studies for the Painting “Russia. The Soul of the People”, two works .
Each oil on canvas, laid on cardboard, one measuring 32 by 18 cm and the other 32 by 17.5 cm.

The works in the present lot are studies for the composition Russia. The Soul of the People, 1914–1916, The State Tretyakov Gallery, which Nesterov believed to be his pivotal painting.
Authenticity of the works has been confirmed by Natalia Nesterova, the artist’s daughter (inscriptions on the reverse of each painting).
Authenticity of the work has been confirmed by the expert V. Petrov.
