Forest by the Lake, signed with initials.
Oil on paper, laid on cardboard, 18.5 by 14.5 cm.

Inscribed in Cyrillic with a presumably authentication by the artist N.S. Matveev (1855–1939), a contemporary of Levitan, and dated “21 apr. 1931” on the reverse.
Authenticity of the work has been confirmed by the expert V. Petrov.
The present lot is a study for the painting In the North (1896), currently in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery.
