Provenance: Possibly acquired by the father of the previous owner in Russia, c. 1916–1917.
Authenticity of the work has been confirmed
by the expert V. Petrov.
The present lot appears to be a study for the left side of the triptych The Labours of Sergius of Radonezh, now in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery.
