681. A SOVIET PORCELAIN VASE OF ALEXANDER NEVSKY

UNIDENTIFIED MANUFACTORY, 1940s.
Height 43.5 cm.

Bulbous form, decorated with two cartouches set inside the laurel wreaths with five-point stars on the top, one depicting the scene from possibly the Battle of the Ice with the figure of Alexander Nevsky on horseback holding a sword in one hand and shield in the other, and his companion-in-arms with a spear defeating the crusaders; the reverse inscribed "Whoever comes against us with the sword shall die by the sword. On this the Russian Land has stood and will stand." in Cyrillic, the sides further decorated with smaller cartouches with orders depicting Alexander Nevsky and hammer and sickle underneath, apparently unmarked.
