This small oval icon is set in a silver frame with a painted depiction of Our Lord Pantocrator. The image is painted in oils on a zinc plate and executed in a realistic manner. Within the oval silver frame are alternating segments inlaid with garnets and opals in cabochon settings. The filigree decoration on the frame is in the ‘Byzantine’ style. Manufacture of objects in this style was an individual line pursued by master craftsmen at the firm of K. Faberge at the beginning of the 20th century.
A gold Panagia icon of the Theotokos in a similar style is in the Metropolitan museum (USA).
