Grandson and pupil of Ivan Aivazovsky. In 1896 entered the Royal Academy of Art, the class of Kuindji. Executed impressionist landscapes in oil, tempera and watercolour; member and co-founder of the World of Art movement. In 1921 he headed the Royal Porcelain factory in Greece. Since 1924 lived in Paris where he set up a workshop for Russian refugees, producing , vases, china etc predominantly for the American market and painted decorative screens for the major Art Deco French cabinet makers. Died in Paris in 1942.
