The seven young noblemen having fled from Decious to pray and prepare for death, are asleep in a cave on Mount Anchilos, the rocky mountain with sparse vegetation, the Mandylion at the top of the scene, the serene faces portrayed in the traditional manner, their features and hair defined by delicate brushstrokes, their bright garments and gold haloes contrasting with the darkness of the cave.
