The beardless Christ is seated on a tall, backless throne with a suppedaneum, holding an open book, flanked by His Mother in supplication and John the Evangelist holding the Gospels as in a Deisis, surrounded by the Elders of the Pharisees. The building in the background suggests the interior of the Temple; the icon is executed with saturated colours, brightened by the white architectural elements and the gilt folds of the garments.
