St. Nicholas is surrounded by four family patrons; to the left are two Guardian Angels and to the right Sts. Avksentii and Mary of Egypt. The traditional images are complemented by a silver-gilt oklad, the saint’s Episcopal vestments and the background are engraved with cruciform patterns and foliage scrolls. The border is chased with leafy stems and flower buds, the halo and spandrel panels in cloisonne enamel, the inscriptions in champleve enamel.
