The present lot is from the series of set and costume designs for the 1909 production of Nikolai Rimsky-Korsokov’s The Maid of Pskov at Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. This production was part of the Diaghilev season and Fedor Chaliapin starred in the role of Ivan the Terrible.
