Boris Sveshnikov is primarily famous for his “Prison Camp Suite” (or “Gulag Art”). In 1946 during his studies he was arrested for “anti Soviet propaganda” and sent to a concentration camp for 8 years, where he began the “Prison Camp Suite”.

Sveshnikov never fully recovered from his imprisonment, and throughout his life he disliked publicity. Early in his career he would not even sign his works, regarding it as superfluous vanity. This partly explains why he is relatively unknown.
