Portrait of Pushkin and Portrait of Krylov first signed on the reverse and dated 1947, second inscribed and dated 1940 on the reverse in Cyrillic.
Both tempera on board, 15 by 13 cm., 16.5 by 13 cm.
2,000-3,000 Pounds
Fascinating iconographic treatments of Pushkin and Krylov, these two small works were prominently displayed near one another in Sofronov’s personal collection.
Unique among the Sofronov collection, they illustrate Sofronov’s self-conscious identity as a Russian during his time in Rome.
