Sofronov began this work by applying gesso to the reverse of the cloth and outlining a traditional icon of Christ with the Samaritan Woman. Changing his mind, the artist turned it over and produced the Icon of Christ. It is notable for Sofronov’s building up of colour, similar to his oil technique.
