The present lot is a reproduction of Yuon’s 1911 eponymous watercolour, currently in the collection of the State Tretyakov Gallery, commissioned to the artist by the booksellers and publishers Grossman and Knebel. Pleased by the Yuon’s artwork, Iosif Knebel subsequently produced its life-size reproduction, printing the run in Leipzig. The lithographs were largely distributed in Germany, where they were displayed in a number of schools at geography lessons as illustrations for a typical Russian city.
