A Rare and Important Soup Tureen from the St Andrew Service

4,000-6,000 GBP

MEISSEN MANUFACTORY, 1780-1796
Diameter 22 cm.

Of traditional round form, body in white with sprays of flowers, lid with matching décor and lemon-shaped finial with small branch and almond, with the state seal
and the St Andrew order cross, with gilt rim, with blue manufactory mark.
The Meissen St. Andrew Service represents one of the most important diplomatic gifts dating to the luxurious 18th century. The full service comprised more than 400 pieces and was perhaps the first full table service commissioned for the Imperial court. The offered lot represents a jewel of European porcelain and is particularly significant because of its complex historical background.
