The present lot is from the series of set and costume designs for the 1950 production of Mussorgsky’s Khovanshchina at the Metropolitan Opera, New York.
Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist by United Scenic Artists, Local USA 829 in New York
in May 1950 (inscription and stamps on the reverse).
Acquired at the benefit performance at the Metropolitan Opera House by the father of the present owner in the 1960s.
Thence by descent.
