Ovoid, the front painted with a portrait of St Alexander Nevsky after a portrait by T.A. Neff for the iconostasis of St Isaac’s Cathedral, the saint dressed in Roman style armour, with a fur-collared red cloak and holding a banner in his left hand within an oval reserve with an ornament of foliate and trellis decoration, the gilded ground of the reverse centred with an engraved six-pointed star within a circular reserve of radiating rays and a concentric border, signed with initial “MK” in Cyrillic, probably for Mikhail Kryukov.
