This Nude by Yuri Pimenov is one of the artist’s lyrical works, in this case in the nude genre, which are rarely encountered today. Although celebrated first and foremost for his industrial and genre subjects, as an artist he always aimed to empathise with the people and world around him. From the 1930s onwards Pimenov painted much from life. During these years he created his renowned Rose Nude and a string of other works united by their sense of rapture and lyricism and by their cautious relationship to representation. Nude was painted in 1972, during the artist’s mature period. Nevertheless, the composition is endowed with that special poetic harmony and freshness of vision which was so characteristic of his earlier works and which remained Pimenov’s artistic calling card throughout his entire life.
