Boris Kustodiev first produced set designs for Alexander Ostrovsky’s drama The Storm in 1918. Towards the end of 1919, the director A. Korshun asked Kustodiev to produce set and costume designs for another production of the play. The artist submitted the designs on 30 January 1920, but the production was never realised.
