S.E. Sharmanov was an icon painter from St Petersburg. He was associated with the Imperial Academy of Arts and the icon painting workshop of M.S and V.M. Peshekhonovs. He undertook the most prestigious commissions, for example, in December 1860 Sharmanov was paid 15 silver rubles for painting the icon of the Saviour for the Empress Maria Alexandrovna.
