693. THREE CAUCASIAN KINDJALS

a) RUSSIA, CAUCASUS, LATE 19TH CENTURY.
Length in scabbard 47.5 cm., length of blade 28.5 cm.

The kindjal with three fullers blade with scabbard and grip, mounted in silver, beautifully engraved and decorated in a niello design. The reverse of the scabbard depicts a figure of a seated man with Arabic inscriptions above him, initials D.N. in Cyrillic and a date, with the name “Platon Demitov” in Cyrillic on the tail, his initials P.D. on the back of the pommel. The typical Kubachi-Lakh ornament on the grip and scabbard consist of spirally entwined stems with leaves and petals turned inwards.

b) RUSSIA, CAUCASUS, LATE 19TH CENTURY.
Length in scabbard 57.5 cm., length of blade 39.5 cm.

The kindjal with three fullers blade, inlaid with gold on one side. The grip cut from two different coloured panels of horn. The wooden scabbard covered in black leather. The scabbard bent, chape and rivets are inlaid with gold.

c) RUSSIA, CAUCASUS, 1917.
Length in scabbard 57 cm., length of blade 39 cm.

The kindjal with double fuller blade and inscription inlaid with gold “Worked Muhammad 1336” (according to the Moslem calendar). The grip was manufactured using two panels of light horn, three rivets and a silver bracket. The wooden scabbard covered in leather. The silver locket and chape with a ball engraved and decorated with niello foliage ornament.
