Russian painter of the Ecole de Paris born in Vitebsk area. Together with Soutine studied in the Vilenskoe Art School where he met P. Kremegne. In 1912 left for Paris and settled in the famous colony of artists at La Ruche, where he met Modigliani, Chagall and others. From 1916 his paintings were noticed and in demand by famous Parisian art-dealers. Exhibited at the Salon d'Automne, and the Salon des Independents and numerous joint and solo exhibitions.
