Nikolai Dormidontov’s Winter in Jukki is, of its type, a consummate work. Its adherence to the canons of composition, its lovely, flawless draughtsmanship, in perfect harmony with the monochrome ink and wash — these qualities call to mind Dutch winter scenes from the 17th century.
The present work is a study for his oil painting which is in the collection of, and currently on display in, the State Tretyakov Gallery.
