RUSSIAN (MSTERA), FIRST HALF OF THE XIX CENTURY

* 205. ST. NICHOLAS THE MIRACLE WORKER

RUSSIAN (MSTERA), FIRST HALF OF THE XIX CENTURY

31.4 by 26 cm.
5,000-7,000 pounds

Flanked by Christ and His Mother, standing on clouds against ovoid glories, turning towards the saint and offering him the Gospels and Episcopal omophorion, the composition is rendered in great detail, the features defined by dark lines, the rounded areas emphasised by brighter shades and the vestments are meticulously decorated with cruciform and floral patterns, on a dense gold background.
