The icon comes from the Deisis register of an iconostasis, the saint is seen in three-quarter view, leaning forward, raising his hand in speech and displaying an open scroll, his dishevelled, long hair falling on his shoulder, dressed with the animal skins and an himation, painted with deep colours, brightened by light brushstrokes on the fur.
