God’s wisdom is personified by the female figure in the centre of the composition, seated on a backless throne with a footstool, against a circular Mandorla of graded blue and radiating stars, her flesh and wings rendered in fiery red, crowned and dressed in golden, regal vestments, holding a sceptre and a scroll, flanked by the Mother of God of the Sign and St. John the Baptist, both standing on suppedaneums and turning towards St. Sophia, the half figure of Christ in blessing portrayed above her, the open heavens at the top of the image reveal the Holy Altar with the Gospels, flanked by six angels; painted traditionally with deep colours and gold, complemented by a contemporary silver-gilt basma engraved with foliate scrolls.
