The present lot Sevina Sineva by Erik Bulatov is the first out of three works dedicated to the poet Vsevolod Nekrasov, one of the founders of Moscow Conceptualism. The painted composition with the same title is currently in the collection of the Zimmerli Museum (The Rutgers University, New Jersey, USA).
Erik Bulatov was inspired to create the Pocket Exhibition series in 1980 to solve the issue of transporting large works out of the USSR. The small-scale works were intended to represent the original pieces and enabled the artist to exhibit them in the West. Rather than working sketches or studies, these can be seen as finished works.
