Portrait of Sofronov signed and dated "Roma 1941".
Oil on canvas, 79.5 by 59 cm.
5,000-7,000 Pounds
While working for the Vatican, Sofronov became part of a circle of Russian artists that included Maltzev and Nicouline.
This portrait, darker than most of his work, gives Sofronov the gravitas reminiscent of Vasily Perov’s famous portrait of Dostoevsky.
