Letters “Ia”, “V” and “Iu” Masks, from the series “Masks”, three works, each signed, inscribed in Cyrillic and numbered “1 (Ia)”, “4 (V)” and “9 (Iu)”, and dated 2001 on the reverse.
Each oil and gesso on canvas, measuring 50 by 40 cm.

Provenance: Acquired directly from the artist by the present owner in 2008.

Authenticity of the work has been confirmed by L. Nesterov-Rappoport, the artist’s son.
The first two works are letters No. 1 and 4 from the installation of nine paintings, each with a mask conveying a letter in sign language, which together form a phrase in Russian “Ia Vas liubliu”. And the third work is letter No. 9 from another similar installation, forming a Russian phrase “Ia tebia liubliu”.
