Each compartment depicts the protector against a certain illness or problem; for example, the Kazanskaya guards the blind, the Feodorovskaya looks after difficulties in childbirth, Sts. Modest and Vlasiy safeguard domestic animals, Sts. Moses, Martinian, John and Fomaida shield the faithful who pray to them against the forbidden passions; the sophisticated composition is rendered with bright colours on shining golden ground.
